Sorry that it has been a long time since hearing from Switchboard on this. As you know, HUD will be moving into a new and exciting strategic direction. With that comes changes in policies, processes and procedures. Switchboard is no different. We are moving all ideas from the Deputy Secretary queue to Under Review. These ideas will be evaluated with fresh eyes. Please be patient as we are managing all of ideas with our new vetting process. We will provide feedback to you as soon as possible.

As I mentioned in my previous idea, there are other federal agencies that have a one stop checkout that is open for a few hours on Friday afternoons and allows employees to get all of the necessary approvals at one time. This makes a lot of sense, especially while there is construction in the building and so many of the offices are moved.

                    E. Bass, the retention officer is not being hired, but rather a rotation position. I think that this could be done in a similar way. I can say that you are right that there is a lot of things that we can do to address this problem using existing resources, but it takes time and work and without someone taking on that responsibility it won't be done.

It is also worth noting that HUD's Handbook on Absence and Leave, which covers maternity leave has not been updated in over 26 years! See http://portal.hud.gov/huddoc/6001c5ADMH.pdf.
