New HUD Multi-Purpose Room
I think the now-closed cafeteria should be converted into a multi-purpose room ("MPR"). The MPR could be utilized as a great asset for bringing the HUD community together much like the cafeteria was envisioned to be. It would also coincide with the current use of adjacent space as an auditorium, wi-fi lounge, and informal meeting space. The new space could also be used part-time to provide aerobic, yoga, pilates, and work-out space to augment the HUD gym program. Floor mats could be placed in early-morning and after-hour time slots for this purpose. Imagine HUD employees, 100-strong, performing tai-chi together every morning! There is also a shortage of meeting space in the building. A portion of the space could be set aside for small to large conference rooms with sound-proofing and a state-of-the-art reservation system. The larger conference rooms could include a glass built-in that could display some of HUD's considerable museum-quality historical pieces and photos. Best of all, this would be a very cost-effective use of the space with minimal build-out required.
