  1. MOOC

    I recently tried to sign up for an online course offered by a MOCC, and was told that the Department had a policy that we had to have a live instructor. This seems inconsistent with current educational trends for online trainings, and certainly the Department's mandatory trainings. Could this policy, assuming that it is a Departmental policy, be readdressed?

    • New HUD@Work hides menu bar

      The new HUD@Work hides the menu bar. It's confusing and denigrates important links, such as the HUD Library link.

      • Eliminate HVU mandatory awareness training courses and replace them with a one hour webcast that covers all of the topics

        HVU mandatory training courses are outdated and give little information that is of value to HUD staff. Replace these classes with a one hour webcast given by HUD experts on the required topics and do not allow the webcast to go over one hour combined for all of the topics. TED Talks prove that complex topics can be covered in a short time period. OGC covers Ethics Training in a short webcast that is interesting--their format could be done with these topics.

        • Upgrade Internet and Bring Back Local File Servers

          Was told HUD has one large contract with AT&T for internet services. In the city our office is in, I don't know one person who uses AT&T for internet. This has been a large hindrance on many employees ability to complete work in a timely manner.

          Also, our local file server was removed and now our network has to go to the regional office. Some employees wait 1-2 hours just to log in. Multiply all that time by all the field offices plus the wait time for saving files on the J drive and waiting for the J drive to…

            When photos are included in the homepage banner, it would be lovely if the person(s) and/or event was identified. For example, today there is a picture of Sec. Ben Carson with 3 other people. I have no idea who they are and would like to know what the photo was commemorating.

            • Develop a policy for HUD Employees that are Deploying with the Military to be granted 40 hours of Administrative Leave to better prepare.

              Develop a policy that the Secretary of HUD can sign off on that Grants Soldiers deploying and return 40 hours on each end Admin Leave to help them better deal with getting prepared and returning to the work force.

              • HUD's Mission Statement - Employee Engagement

                Years ago, the Department engaged all employees in the selection of Core Values. This followed a process in which employees and managers prepared draft candidate core values, and senior management selected a subset that was put to the employee vote. Something similar should be done with HUD's Mission Statement. HUD will miss a valuable opportunity to engage its workforce if it does not open up the process to all employees. Thank you.

                    I submitted this with the old administration and received over 150 votes. This needs to be relooked at with the new administration. HUD should consider a pilot between the Homeownership Center’s Real Estate Owned (REO) Division and the Office of Public Housing. REO could sell homes to Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) and/or low-income Public Housing or Housing Choice Voucher participants in HUD-approved homeownership programs and/or Family Self Sufficiency (FSS) programs.                     • Lights should be replaced the same day the issue is reported.

                      The women's bathroom on the 4th floor (SW/blue section) is half dark because one of the lights needs to be replaced. I called Facilities at 8 AM Monday (1/8/18) and as of Friday (1/12/18), the light still has not been replaced. This is unacceptable. Even more confusing is that several facilities team members, those who clean the bathroom and empty the garbage, have seen this over the course of the week have, apparently, not reported it. For a relatively simple issue, lights should be replaced the same day the issue is reported.

                      • Make the content of HUD@Work more accessible for telecommuters

                        Due to the difficulties in using HUDMobile and HUDVPN and the increase in use of OneDrive and Office 365, I would love to be able to access internal resources such as what is posted on HUD@Work much more easily. As an example, if I wanted to access the HUD Employee Handbook, it might take me as long as 15 minutes to log into HUDVPN then navigate to HUD@Work to get that information. I do most of my work on OneDrive, Office 365, and SharePoint so it would be great to have that kind of accessibility to all of HUD's internal…

                          Teleworkers lose a lot of time saving Microsoft Word and Excel and Adobe Reader PDF files on the network drives because the VPN network is so extremely slow and crashes often. Historically, HUD has paid about $100 million per year for the HITS contract. Why can't we get high-quality state of the art computer and network equipment from the IT contractors?

                          • Clean the bathrooms

                            Please clean the women's bathroom on the 4th floor of the southwest corridor. For the last few months, this bathroom has smelled awful! It's gotten to the point where I will go to different floors to go the restroom; all of which smell much better! If other bathrooms can be kept clean, I don't understand why this one should be any different.

                            • Provide Hepatitis A Vaccinations

                              Many of our offices have homeless encampments that as employees have to cross in order to enter the building. Hepatitis A is increasing in many of these areas on a weekly basis. Hepatitis A is mainly transmitted through uncleanliness/feces. We have had to walk around it, step around it, watch every step we take. It has gotten to the point where we are using elbows, feet, and other extremities just to push a cross-walk button or an elevator button (public building).                                   • Build new cities in America! Increase housing supply and help our nation grow!

                                    Imagine if you built new cities in desirable locations and you could start with a clean slate? No zoning laws, no planning commissions, no NIMBYism (Not in my backyard) homeowners preventing the growth needed to ensure we Americans have affordable housing across all income levels. Perhaps we could find land in America where farmers and large landowners could be enticed to sell their land. We could build case-study cities utilizing all the knowledge and wisdom urban planning gained over several decades and try building great cities from scratch instead of trying to retrofit existing ones.

                                        We have HUD forms that require people and entities to provide their signature (often attached to an important certification). However, many HUD documents don't have a space for the person or entity to print their name or their title. So often we just get an unreadable squiggle as a signature, and it's very difficult to know who actually signed these important documents.

                                          Without going into huge detail on a internal forum. I think there needs to be independent look at the hiring/transferring of employees.

                                          As, I sit here and write this I remember more and more why I'm interviewing at other agencies.

                                          When an employee can easily look at linkedin, facebook and others site and draw a direct connection to the selection or transfer of an employee to a position there is something wrong.
